So here’s the deal. Big shout out to Chris over at Matt and Memere’s because I finally caved and ordered two of their BONGO specials. Yeah, you read that right. Two. Because clearly one sandwich isn’t enough when you’re staring down the weekend with soap orders piling up like laundry in a college dorm.
First up: the Fried Oyster Po’ Boy. Let me tell you… I don’t even like day-old oysters. Like at all. Who does? If someone tells you they enjoy reheated seafood, run. That person has made choices in life you cannot trust. Which means I had no choice but to eat this sandwich for both lunch and dinner. Sacrifice, right? Except it wasn’t really a sacrifice, because the bread alone deserves its own reality show. Crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside. Basically, bread that could solve world peace if we just gave it the microphone.
Then there’s the Italian Cold Cut Po’ Boy waiting in the wings. I’m saving that beast for tomorrow, because nothing says “weekend productivity” like yelling at soap molds while eating an Italian that’s basically a love letter to lunch meat. I could have gone with any of the BONGO specials, but this is what happens when indecisive people get hungry. You panic order. It’s a survival mechanism.
And here’s the kicker: I’m already planning my return trip like I’m booking flights. If those BONGO specials are still on deck this weekend, guess who’s rolling up again? (Spoiler: it’s me, looking like I’m smuggling baguettes under my hoodie.) These sandwiches are not just food, they’re strategy. They’re how you power through the grind, keep your spirits up, and remind yourself that Portland weekends are best measured in carbs.
So yeah. If you’re hungry, stop messing around. Get the sandwiches. Trust me, your taste buds will write you a thank-you card. Chris and the crew don’t disappoint. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

The Catfish tasted like it came straight out of the river without being soaked in lemon juice to get the taste out, I'm from the south and this is not how you do this type of dish. The jambalaya was a little salty but overall okay

Seriously overpriced. The sandwich in the photo looks delicious and piled high. What you really get is a small 6-inch sub that tastes no better than Subway. Why are you charging $13 for this when its worth half that price? I want to support local business but not when they are ripping us off.
