AVOID the dessert.
Thimble-size is describing the portion graciously .
Stick to the terrific entrées!!
While I love the food at the Commodore and my chicken sandwich and biscuits with honey butter did not disappoint, there was one reason alone that compelled me to order from The Commodore last night, and unfortunately, they let me down with enormously.
Ever have a craving for something and you've just got to have it? You're willing to scour the city far 'n wide? That was me last night. Although I knew that I didn't have to go far because I knew precisely where to satisfy this particular craving. I couldn't get Key Lime Pie pie out of my mind, I was craving it beyond all measure & nothing else would do. So, the mini keylime pie was the first thing that I placed in my cart. Although I've enjoyed it many times, solely on premises, I didn't give it even a passing thought that delivery would be any different.
However, the keylime pie fell far short of the mark. Ordinarily I'd effusively rave that their pastry chef's confection was ne plus ultra.
The major fail last night was due to the fact that they surreptitiously performed sleight-of-hand and had the audacity to deliver a cup that was virtually devoid of any food (and I would've paid any price!)
Perhaps they're trying yet another new concept:
"Kitchen Gaslighting"?
Charge the customer the usual nine dollars for the dessert, deliver a cup that is virtually empty, and hope that the customer is duped into silence, taking a chapter from the recently renamed:
"emperor's-new-clothes-keylime-pie",
a GL-P version that satisfies diabetics and Weight Watchers aficionados alike (zero points!)
If they had sold out of the dish, no problem, simply strike it from the bill and don't deliver a cup that's basically empty. However, they sent me what could only be described as not-quite-an-actual-bite to qualify as an amuse-bouche.
The sole reason that I was able to confirm that they did indeed send the scrumptious ghost-bouche was because I scraped along the lining of the very bottom of the cup with the very tippy top of my spoon - yep, scrape, scrape, scrape. There was no depth whatsoever lining the bottom of the cup, so I was unable to collect the equivalent of an actual spoonful of the custard.
So....yum?
Yep.
but to quote Theodor Seuss Geisel:
"...leaving [a crumb] much too small
for the other Whos' mouses!"
This customer has long sidled up to the bar at the Commodore, enjoying the entire menu since day one, after having been a pioneer explorer at his original concept when biscuits, chicken and pie was foreign indeed,
Never having had to embark on a scavenger hunt in order to reveal a missing mini keylime pie when dining on premises, I feel hoodwinked,
Trading on their (former?) stellar reputation?
Not a great look.
