• 2/24/22chopstix's katsudon is my favorite one of all the katsudon I've had, even while in Japan. this is the first time I tried their cream cheese wontons and they were very good! I live their tempura too, crisp but you have to wait for it to cool if you don't want to burn your mouth instantly. I only wish this because I recently went to another restaurant in another state. the other offered only sweet potato tempura pieces in addition to an option for mixed veggies. but I still love chopstix's tempura

• 8/7/25Bulgogi Don is pretty good, for being a few ingredients short of a proper Bibimbap. Decent amount of protein for the price, rare these days.
A) Okonomiyaki - Hard to recommend for as small as it was. Good flavor, though, especially with the katsuobushi. Strongly urge the store to allow customization of this item with a list of common mix-ins.

• 7/19/25I’ve been coming here for almost 30 years, and it’s still one of the most consistently wonderful spots in San Diego. These days, I usually order it once or twice a month on DoorDash — especially since I'm not the only one who knows about Chopstix, and the parking lot gets quite packed in the afternoon. Even though they’re open pretty late, the food remains hot, fresh, and very flavorful. I usually go for the curry rice with either chicken or pork, and both are excellent. The portions are generous, and the curry rice feels incredibly hearty and filling (the side salad they throw in is a nice touch too).
When I do go in person, the staff is always friendly, which makes the whole experience even better. It’s just one of those restaurants that’s been doing things right for so long, there’s really nothing I’d change. Chopstix is a staple around here for a reason, and if you’ve never tried it, DoorDash is honestly a great way to skip the hassle and still enjoy a local favorite.

• 1/29/26The Nabeyaki Soup Noodle had great flavor, but not enough to make up for the rather poor value and less-than-stellar packaging. Came in two containers: one that was undersized for the soup (some of which spilled into the plastic produce bag, thankfully not the larger "main" bag) and some of the extras I ordered, and a standard quart container that I guess was supposed to suffice for the usual stacked bowl I see from other stores in the area? Combining was a hassle, requiring more caution than usual to not make a slopping mess.
Poor value comes from the pittance of toppings advertised: a few slices of shiitake, a piece or two of each of the fishcakes, and the poached egg (which was included in the wafu dashi for some reason and, naturally, continued to cook, completely negating the entire purpose of poaching in the first place). Overpriced.
Overall, I can't recommend this item. This store has much better value with dishes like their donburi (oyakodon and unagidon especially, which I do like) -- stick to those and you'll be fine.

• 9/12/24The Miso Soup tastes very weird. It has this plastic-ish and mold-ish flavor in it. Super weird. Do not order this. Other than that, the Unagi Don and A) Takoyaki taste very good and authentic even though the A) Takoyaki was a bit raw.
