Disappointing Portions, Bland Flavors, and Poor Value
I was extremely disappointed with my recent order from P.F. Chang’s. The portions were shockingly small — I honestly could have gone to a local Asian restaurant and received more food, richer flavors, and left feeling far more satisfied. Instead, I finished this meal still hungry and frustrated.
Food Quality
Overall Flavor: Everything tasted bland. Nothing had the boldness or depth I expect from a restaurant at this price point.
Mongolian Beef: The beef was dry, overdone, and lacking flavor. There were more scallions than actual beef, which made the dish feel even smaller.
White Rice: Some pieces were crispy and inedible, as if the rice had been cooked and reheated multiple times.
Egg Drop Soup: It tasted like plain strained broth — no richness, no seasoning, nothing memorable.
Dessert: Key Lime Pie
This was the biggest disappointment of the meal. The portion was tiny — smaller than a baby cheesecake. Instead of meringue, it was delivered as a mound of what tasted like untoasted/caramelized marshmallow fluff.
The “fluff” was half-frozen on one side and melting on the other.
The key lime curd tasted like something from a jar and was packed to the side of the dish rather than incorporated.
You’re expected to dip the fluff into the curd, but even together, the flavor was bland and unsatisfying.
Portion Size & Value
For a lunch portion, the serving sizes were far too small. Between the overcooked meat, the inedible rice, and the lackluster dessert, the entire meal felt like poor value for the price.
Overall Impression
I haven’t been to P.F. Chang’s in a while, and after this experience, I will likely not be back. The food quality, portion sizes, and flavors were all disappointing, and I walked away still hungry and very dissatisfied. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants when I worked at the mall and wanted to splurge.
