I came to visit Oakland for a work trip, and during my stay I found myself coming back to Shooting Star Cafe well over four times in a two day period. Each time I got something different, and every item was delicious, refreshing, and made me want to keep coming back. In particular I loved their lychee sago bowl with mixed fruit, and all of their drinks were exactly what I was hoping for. "
"We had several dishes that were delicious. Pork Spareribs Clay Pot Rice / 㰖角排骨煲仔飯 had great flavors with Bok Choy and bowl full of rice, too much rice. Shredded Pork Pan Fried Noodle / 肉絲煎麵arrived with pan noodles on separate container. Shredded pork could also be great as a soup dish! Combination Meat Chow Mein / 雜錦炒麵was ok nothing special and almost lacked that wholesome flavor for authentic chinese food. Fried Prawns / 炸蝦was cooked perfectly and tasted great! Popcorn Chicken / 鹽酥雞 was seasoned well! Beef Chow Fun / 乾炒牛河 was surprisingly very good with good flavors. Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings / 椒鹽雞中翼 were ok and our least favorite, very oily and arrived soggy. "

"Excellent dining experience! The Wonton Soup 净云吞 is a classic favorite served with a juicy pork filing. We tried the Deep Fried Fresh Oysters 炸鲜蚝 which were very fresh and tasted great with the Boiled Seasonal Vegetables 白灼时蔬 The Fried Dumplings and Egg Rolls are the perfect finger food/snack paired with plenty of dipping sauces were crispy and light. "We had a very large order for some VIPs at a local event and had it delivered. I gave the restaurant a call after ordering online and spoke with Iris. She was amazing and said they would make it very special for our guests. Everything came out perfect, and exactly on time! Our delivery driver was also a winner. He called to let me know the food was there, and didn't leave until I verified everything was correct.
The restaurant packaged the food well, and it was easy to display as-is. Everyone loved the food, the portions were plentiful, and the piggy custard buns were a huge hit! "Was very excited to try this place. I'll start with some praise: the beef is incredibly tender and flavorful. The garlic cucumber was a tad sweet but still very nice.
Now for the bad: the noodles are (at least delivered) only so-so. Almost feels like an Italian dried pasta. Worse, this was meant to be spicy - so I was expecting a fair bit of oil and chili, but it really was quite flavorless apart from the beef. I added a healthy dose of chili crisp to bring it to life, but for the quite expensive price point I was expecting more.
Decent portion size, but again - you're paying quite a bit for it. Probably won't order again, but might stop by the restaurant to see if it cooks up better fresh than delivered."

"We get the Chow Mein 炒面 and Sweet & Sour Chicken / Pollo Agridulce 甜酸鸡 every time - both delicious. Today we tried the Mandarin Crispy Prawn in Basil Sauce 香草虾 "little hot" and those were AMAZING, but not spicy at all.
We have tried a lot from here and these are out favorites so far. It is, however, pretty pricy. But if you want Chinese food, it's the way to go "
