"This is the second day in a row that I’ve ordered stuffed breadsticks and received regular breadsticks instead.
Today, rather than contacting DoorDash and going through the refund process again, I decided to drive back to the restaurant to have the order corrected because I understand that mistakes happen.
When I arrived, I explained to the employee at the register that I had ordered stuffed breadsticks but received regular ones. Her response was, “Well, what do you want me to do?” I simply replied that I wanted the food I had ordered.
She then told me they were out of the cheese needed to make the stuffed breadsticks. If that’s the case, that’s completely understandable—but I shouldn’t have been sent a different item without being notified. The stuffed breadsticks cost more than the regular breadsticks, and I didn’t order the substitution. If an item is out of stock, the restaurant should notify DoorDash or contact the customer instead of deciding what to send.
I told her I would just contact DoorDash for a refund on the breadsticks. She then took the breadsticks I brought back and threw them in the trash, which was fine because I wasn’t going to eat them anyway. However, she also demanded that I return the drinks from my order. I didn’t bring the drinks because they were correct, and I intended to keep and pay for them. I was only seeking a refund for the breadsticks I never ordered.
She then said she was going to call DoorDash and report that I didn’t return the drinks. That’s perfectly fine. I have no problem paying for the drinks because I received them. What I do have a problem with is the attitude I was met with and the way this situation was handled.
This wasn’t about getting free food. It was about receiving the item I paid for. If the restaurant doesn’t have an item available, they should mark it as out of stock or notify DoorDash so the customer can choose a replacement or receive a refund. They shouldn’t make that decision on the customer’s behalf. It’s not their money, and it’s not their choice to substitute a different item without asking."
