Chilitos Mexican Bar and Grill at 441 E Tower Park Dr, Waterloo, IA delivered one of those meals that makes you slow down and enjoy every bite. I ordered the Carne Asada platter with refried beans and rice, plus flour tortillas, hot sauce, chips, and finished with flan, and the whole experience was a perfect combination of flavor, comfort, and value.
The carne asada was the star. The steak had a bold, grilled flavor with that slight char on the outside that tells you it was cooked right. It was tender, full of seasoning, and tasted fresh, not dry or bland. Every bite had that savory, smoky taste that makes carne asada so satisfying. The portion size was generous. This was not a small plate. It was the kind of serving that leaves you full and still thinking, “They really took care of me here.”
The sides matched the quality of the main dish. The refried beans were smooth, warm, and rich, with a great texture that felt homemade. The rice was fluffy and well seasoned, not plain, and it balanced the meal perfectly. Add in the flour tortillas, and it turned into the kind of meal where you can build your own bites, wrap it up, and enjoy it however you want.
The chips were crisp and fresh, and the hot sauce added the perfect kick. It brought heat without drowning out the flavor, and it made the steak and tortillas even better. Then came dessert. The flan was a great finish. It was creamy, soft, and sweet in the right way, with that smooth texture that makes you take your time instead of rushing the last bite.
If you want a meal that feels satisfying from start to finish, with great flavor, strong portions, and a complete plate that hits every comfort note, Chilitos is worth the stop. I left full, happy, and already thinking about what I am ordering next time.

• 22/12/25I loved everything besides the 02. Sopapillas, they didnt taste right at all, the only thing my husband and I could taste was the grease that they fry them in. We also were expecting maybe for them to come in a pack of 8 but instead they only came in a pack of 5. With the strawberry syrup and ice cream they were okay, but you could still take the grease under all of that as well.
