"I'm a native Texan who has traveled all over the country and compared my favorite Texas BBQs to other state's BBQ. I am a huge fan of HEB, but the BBQ we received today was some of the most disappointing I have ever eaten. The lean brisket and turkey were each a slab of dry, chewy meat. The Cole slaw had a chemical aftertaste (soap?). The potato salad was a strange mixture of flavors including mustard powder instead of using real egg-based mayo or liquid mustard. The Mac and cheese used a bland white cheese making it meh. The cornbread and honey butter were more like corn cake with icing. The sweet BBQ sauce was brown sugar water.
We did like the Sidewinder Fries , but those are just thick potatoes with sea salt and not "True Texas BBQ".
I was originally excited that a new HEB opened near my house with BBQ...but none of us who ate from there today are interested in eating there again considering how many options we have for actual Texas BBQ in the area."

As far as the Create Your Own Pizza is concerned. Its ok. I grew up on Mr. Gattis. Back when they were the local pizzaria and you would join the entire neighborhood in the Good Times Room on Friday night for dinner. You had to order the pizzas one at a time. There was no buffet. We got a pitcher of root beer. There was no soda fountain for us to get refills. Thats when the pizza was good. Now it depends on what high schooler is making it and if it's cold by the time DD delivers it. They dont even hire delivery drivers anymore. I'm getting off topic...anyways, the pizza is just ok. We only order it because my 8 yr old son uses it as an appetizer for the Pepperoni Rolls. "
