• 23-05-29We got the Curried Chicken with Rice w. Onion and Sizzling Beef with Black Pepper. Both were very good and very filling. They tasted incredible and were still hot as hell. I only wish the Curried Chicken with Rice w. Onion was more spicy.

• 26-07-29I’ve been coming to Penang for years and used to be a frequent customer for both dine-in and takeout. It was always one of my favorite local restaurants, which makes it especially disappointing to say that my last two experiences (including today’s) have convinced me that the quality of both the food and service has declined significantly. Whether it’s due to new ownership, poor management, or a lack of staff training, something has clearly changed.
I placed a takeout order for 9 items and was quoted an estimated pickup time of 1 hour. That’s an unusually long wait, especially on a Tuesday at 4pm when the restaurant was nearly empty. When I arrived, there were only three occupied tables, making the wait even harder to understand.
The pickup experience was equally disappointing. A server pointed me toward the front counter, but no one was there. I stood waiting for nearly 5 minutes before someone finally came over, even though my food had already been packed and was sitting behind the counter.
The packaging showed a complete lack of care. While the individual containers were fine, the entire order was crammed into a single brown paper bag filled to the top, with containers sticking up near the handles. There was no way the bag could be carried safely without risking it tearing. I politely asked if they could split the order into two bags. Instead of helping, the employee gave me a dirty look, handed me an empty second bag after I had already paid, and told me to repack it myself. That should never be the customer’s responsibility. It should have been packaged properly from the start.
Unfortunately, the food has declined as well. The roti canai, which used to be one of my favorites, was a huge disappointment. The roti itself was rubbery, and the curry dipping sauce was so watered down that it lacked the rich flavor it was once known for. Other dishes also seemed noticeably smaller while prices have continued to increase. I understand inflation affects restaurants, but this felt more like cutting corners than simply adjusting prices.
What disappoints me most is that Penang used to stand out for both its food and hospitality. Now the customer service feels indifferent, the attention to detail is gone, and the food no longer justifies the prices.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but after two consistently poor experiences, I can no longer recommend this restaurant. It’s unfortunate to see a place that was once so reliable decline to this extent.

• 25-05-05Satay beef was flavorful but a little dry. Roti was good but arrived in a clump, they should roll it flat with foil to keep warm instead of shoving in a bag.
Pad thai was lackluster. Mostly dry noodles. Hardly veggies or protein. Boring and bland.
Chicken rice curry was okay. Sauce was good. Portion was acceptable.
I remember it being better but havent eaten here in over 10 years.

• 26-02-07The Roti Canai is the most delicious thing i've ever eaten. They always make it there so it's super fresh and the portion is perfect especially for the price. I would order this 1 million times I would eat this if I were on death row nothing compares to Penang's roti canai genuinely I have been eating this meal since I was born or whenever since this place open, I don't know it's so good. I would go to war for the owners of this restaurant. the service? Immaculate. they somehow knew to give us two spoons and two forks even though we didn't say how many people this was for, but it was for two people and that was just perfect. I just love them not to mention that the employees are fine. also not that this matters because it's a DoorDash pick up order but the vibe of that restaurant is undefeated. Also, the water is always delicious. I would also recommend the fried chicken dumplings or whatever they're called because they are so good so good they smack every time. ( not to be confused with the actual fried chicken)Trust me . I love peneng. to close this out I would also like to repeat that I would go to war for the owners of this place also, I would like to mention that my best social interaction ever was with a woman in the bathroom there she was not an employee, but she was very sweet and she said that she loved the food as well so that's two people that have said they like this food make that three says my dear sister

• 25-09-09Honestly the portions were super small but the flavor is SO good. I wish they gave more chicken in the Curry Chicken Potato with Rice bc most of it did have bones in it and I didn't have much protein. If the portions were larger this place would be perfect!!
