As a sushi chef myself I can confidently say that Tokai is in my top 3 spots for sushi in SCV. The quality of the fish is very good. I appreciated the fact that they actually marinated the Ikura (salmon roe). Many sushi restaurants skip this step so you just end up eating salty salmon eggs. My only complaint is I think the marination proved to be a little too much on the sweet side. Other than that my meal was fantastic.
I ordered the BAKED GREEN MUSSELS which are probably the best tasting ones in SCV.
The red SURF CLAM SUSHI (1PC) which isn't for everyone but has always been one of my favorites.
SEARED SALMON SUSHI (1PC) which was delicious.
MONKFISH LIVER SUSHI (1PC) another one of those things that people don't normally order but it was also delicious
and finally the SALMON ROE SUSHI (1PC). Already said what I didn't like about it but it was still good.

Order placed was not ready for pick up for an hour and a half. Rolls were falling apart and avocado was spoiled. No ginger or wasabi provided even though we spent over $130. They gave us two spicy tuna rolls instead of a Bluefin Tuna Roll. Shrimp tempura was mushy and cold.

I received a delivery order. Unfortunately, the sushi was covered in lemon juice and it wasn't fresh. The rice in the crispy rice spicy tuna appetizer was fried too long, so it was hard around the edges. The order was done correctly and arrived on time.

Against my better judgment, I tried this place again after seeing their ad campaign. Food was absolutely dreadful and went in the trash. The tempura was soggy and gummy. The crab tasted fishy and unfresh. The avocado was brown. The edamame tasted like it was unalived-bland and like wilted produce.

This is my all-time favorite place to eat sushi. I have so many favorites here, can't wait to see the new menu. The staff is the best and super friendly when you dine-in. Tokai - you guys ROCK!
