"Having lived in Southern California for many years, I am well acquainted with El Pollo Loco. Their Chicken was always fresh, flavorful, juicy, and delicious. It was always a family favorite. And that is what I was looking forward to tonight.
However, this was my first experience ordering from the El Pollo Loco in Northern California and to my dismay the meal that was delivered to me did not come close to living up to the quality of food their counterparts are serving in SoCal.
First, I didn't quite receive the Chicken meal I ordered. I was suppose to receive
3pc Chicken - Breast & Wing Meal. But instead of 1 chicken wing I received 2. And unfortunately both wings were over cooked and the skin so burned it was puckered and leathery. I could not eat either.
The Chicken Breast included in the meal was overcooked---the skin over cooked and leathery dry as well. I managed to pull off the burned skin and remove a little bit of the meat. I put the meat in a tortilla with some of the condiments to taste it. But the chicken shredded as I tried to eat it and was unpleasant and very dry when I tried to eat it and I could not even get it down.
I also ordered a Large Drink that was supposed to be a Mango Lime Cold Foam Cooler. But I could not detect either the Mango or Lime flavor in the drink, and there certainly wasn't any sign of the cold foam either. The drink I received tasted suspiciously like plain old Lemonade. So I would conclude that I very likely received the wrong drink.
And I don't know why restaurants are including such a measly amount of ice in their drinks. I ordered a large drink and there was almost no ice in the cup. A warm drink is so unpleasant. I was looking for an icy cold and refreshing drink, but that is not what I received.
On a better note: the tortillas were soft and still nicely warm due to the brilliant way they were wrapped.
The beans were tasty and I enjoyed the creaminess and freshness of the coleslaw.
The condiments I ordered were Sour Cream, Guacamole, and Salsa Fresca (Medium) and they were all fresh and arrived as ordered. Unfortunately, with the chicken being so dry, I didn't exactly have a need for them.
I don't know why this El Pollo Loco location was so far off the mark from the fresh, juicy, flavorful, consistently prepared to perfection--chicken El Pollo Loco has always been known for. They should be ashamed of the state of the meal that they knowingly and purposefully delivered to me. I am greatly disappointed tonight."

"My last Burger King order 10 days ago was problematic to say the least. Tonight's order was a complete redemption and couldn't have been any better.
I began my order with the Original Chicken Sandwich. It arrived just as I like it--fresh, warm, and juicy. I love this sandwich and have ordered it many times before. The bun is always fresh and holds up perfectly to the sandwich from first bite to last. The nicely battered chicken prepared to a golden brown---not too dark, not too light---is delicious. I opted for topping it with Mayo, Tomato slices, and Onion Rings. Perfection!
What I love best about Burger King's Onion Rings is their size. They are the perfect bite size to pop one in your mouth as you are unpacking the bag. I appreciate that the batter always, and I do mean always, stays on the onion rings. Unlike onion rings from other establishments where the rings are too large to manage and you take a bite and most of the batter lands in your lap, so you are left holding a limp, bare onion slice that is fairly unappealing.
Tonight's order of Onion Rings also arrived fresh, warm, delicious and generous in portion.
For dessert I ordered the Cinnamon Apple Pie. The taste is reminiscent of the Apple Turnovers I make from scratch at home. Burger King's version was warm and tasted freshly baked. The pastry crust was light and flaky with a sprinkle of sugar on top. Within the pastry, the apples were soft, warm, and delicious through and through. The pie is the perfect size to hold in your hand and it doesn't drip, leak, or fall apart.
It was the perfect ending to a delicious meal.
I don't often order a beverage when ordering takeout, but tonight I ordered a large Signature Watermelon Lemonade with ice. It was so refreshing with just the right balance of watermelon to lemonade flavor and not at all overly sweet. It was cold, perfect and just what I was looking for.
Simply because I wanted to enjoy the drink slowly after my meal, I poured the beverage into my 40 oz insulated cup where it is maintaining its icy cold, refreshing deliciousness more than an hour after it arrived.

However, they were out of the Coke® Freezee so I accepted a Strawberry Freezee as a substitute. I had never tried either drink before, and will not be ordering the Strawberry Freezee again. It was awful. There was absolutely no Stawberry Flavor, or any flavor at all. I don't know what they mixed the strawberry with, but it was more like Club Soda and completely void of any flavor whatsoever.
All of the remaining items in my order were perfect, which is why I continue to order them. Burger King clearly makes the best Chicken Sandwich in town. It is always fresh, juicy, and tender. It arrives warm and exactly as I order it. Plus, they offer the option to have it cut in half for you.
I love their Onion Rings for much the same reason. They arrive fresh and warm and lightly salted. But mostly I love that the breading never falls off, the onion rings arrive in perfect condition, and I love the pop-it-in-your-mouth size. Go ahead and see if you can resist reaching in and snatching one while opening the bag at home. I have tried but haven't been able to resist the urge yet. I love their onion rings so much I also order my Original Chicken Sandwich prepared with onion rings in the bun. They are that delicious.

I ordered a Hand-Breaded Bacon Swiss Chicken Sandwich and customized it a little bit. My version removed the bacon and lettuce; and substituted a Sesame Seed bun for the Sourdough bread. The Sesame Seed bun was a good choice and held up well to the sandwich.
