The Pioneer Team is thrilled to bring its warm and welcoming eatery to the area, serving some of the greatest BBQ San Diego has seen since the days of the pioneer.
2nd time eating at the Pioneer. I think I found my go-to rib joint. The ribs are ALWAYS tender and falling off the bone. The sauce is just right. The homemade Texas toast is delicious 😋. I ordered the baked beans this time, they were good as well. The beans are nice and hearty with meat added. The food here has been great everytime. Try them out if you LOVE BBQ ❤️

The BBQ here is delicious. The ribs were fall off the bone good and seasoned well. the macaroni was good. I would have loved more seasoning, but it did not take away from the taste. The reason for the 4 stars was because of the wings, which was seasoned good and very crispy. But they were HOT 🔥 🥵 the dry rub is very hot. if you are not a fan, stay away. it was an unwelcome surprise. I did reach out to the restaurant regarding this and spoke with Mat, who was very polite and understanding 😀. Thanks so much Pioneer BBQ. I will definitely be back.

I gave them a second shot, but while the brisket was cooked great and tasted great, they skimped on the portion size of the meat...for $28 the 4 small slices that were about maybe 8oz was not worth it. The store needs to specify how much meat youre going to receive with each meal that you order, and the store needs to add an option to let you buy more brisket meat, either a la carte, or as an add-on. Definitely not worth buying 2x $28 dollar brisket meals just to feel full.

I Only have 2 complaints.
1. The Mac n cheese was dry and needed a little more seasoning
2. I paid 18 dollar for the wings and I got 7 of them. Don't get me wrong they were delicious but that's just crazy expensive

We ordered our Memorial Day meal from Pioneer Barbecue. every item on our order was excellent. The potato salad...the ribs...the collard greens...the chicken strips...and the way it was presented was also outstanding. I also had the pecan pie for dessert. Loved it. We have food left over. too so plenty was in our order. I highly recommend this place to anyone and I have no personal nor financial association with it. it is amazing.
