"Village Inn is the best! My whole family loves their food and their prices are very reasonable. We can eat there for less than a lot of fast food places. Their breakfast is the best around! Their dinners and salads are always great too, homemade and fresh. Their french toast and handmade sausage patties are my personal favorites. They have a breakfast combo called the VIB combo (Village Inn Breakfast) combo where you get to choose four items such as french toast, pancakes, any type of eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, even chicken strips or chicken fried steak for a small upcharge. The combo with four items is only $12 and you can add up to three additional items for only $1.50 each. My 18-year-old daughter, two-year-old son (who is a big eater), and I can all share the combo and usually have food left over. If you're still hungry after you finish all your dinner, they have a variety of great-tasting pies and my personal favorite, carrot cake. "I've been trying to find menudo I like in modern Wichita after a few recommendations turning out badly, and I might've finally found a stalwart (on a Tuesday, no less!). This is 32 ounces of hominy-free red Menudo with a nice variety of tripe and a clean-tasting broth. It comes with your choice of bread or tortillas. I opted for bread tonight and was a little disappointed when I saw that it was just lightly toasted slices of French bread, but it held up well as an accompaniment. It also came with a baggie of oregano, diced onion, cilantro, and half a lime to garnish and customize, but there was no salsa or chiles included to spice it up further. I did add salt to taste, got heavy handed with the accoutrements the way I always do, and really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be ordering it again.
I also tried the Enchladas Michoacanas since I've taken some bad gambles on menudo. Having eaten (and cooked) countless plates of enchiladas michoacanas, I can attest to the slight variability between regions of the state and households, but again was quite pleasantly surprised and another craving was satisfied. If you're unfamiliar with the style, they're made by frying corn tortillas in a flavorful but mild guajillo chile salsa, then filled with cheese and served topped with potatoes and carrots, raw onions and lettuce, crema or sour cream, and sometimes additional cheese. This was a generous portion of four enchiladas, bistec a la milanesa, carrots, potatoes, a side of rice, and a salad of iceberg, tomato, and onion atop sour cream, with a few pickled escabeche vegetables. Also something I'll be reordering.
Next time I'll probably give the pollo con tajadas a try and see how it stacks up against the home cooking I've had before. Not many places in Wichita offer Honduran cuisine, so that's exciting to see on the menu!"
