The rice & greens are seasoned very well, the veggies are delicious, portion size is about a hand and steak is cooked well. I dont recall see an option to change that but it still delicious and well seasoned as well. The plantains are my favorite. And the steak goes well with the curry.

This purchase I got the Olga Palmer & the Minnie Pies both were good. I got a Jamaican hot sauce at home that I like on Pattie's.. the pastry on these were wonderful... I love everything I've tried at this restaurant love the play on the variations of Blackness & similarities yet differences in our foods... can't go wrong.. worth the money!!!!

Over-hyped and not worth the money. I paid extra for rice and greens but got plain rice instead. The plain rice was undercooked and not very palatable. Instead of the yago vegetables I got a small, sad portion of barely cooked cauliflower. Portion of plantain is almost non-existent, two tablespoons tops.. steak skewers are like one skewers broken into three pieces, very stingy portions on meat. Curry was extremely salty. Disappointing experience and I would not order again, especially for the price.

the Golden Bowl is one of my favorite dishes in all of Houston. Flat out. The jollof rice is smoky and flavorful. The chicken is well seasoned. Just a very hearty, filling, and satisfying dish.

This place has to be paying for or giving incentives for their over-the-top positive reviews. The raved about Golden Bowl is very overhyped and overpried. For $25, it is just basic chicken thigh, rice, and veggies. I was not blown away by the jollof jambalaya or curry sauce, I've had way better in cheap hole-in-the-wall restaurants. The South African flavors did not come through very much and while filling, it still isn't enough food for that price. The only thing I was impressed with were the plantains, perfectly cooked and the best I've had in a while but since it's such a small portion chopped into tiny pieces, it's not enough to earn a returning customer out of me. I would feel very ripped off if I paid full price, but even discounted to $16 it doesn't seem worth it. I would possibly give the other menu items a try if the prices were fair, but it's too expensive to probably be disappointed again if this is their best and most popular dish.
