The food came hot and feesh, wrapped with care, it was so delicious!!! The ALABAMA CHICKEN WINGS were huge and crispy brined and flavorful. The cat fish was hot crispy tgey separated the crab and chese sauce so that it would remain crunchy. the greens and red beans and rice were amazing I am beyond satisfied. Y'all... I flat-out cussed!! After one bite, I couldn't believe I had finally found a place serving actual soul food in the San Diego area, because finding real soul food has felt like searching for a unicorn wearing a chef's hat.
Then I found Felix's BBQ With Soul.
This North County spot is the real deal. Not "inspired by soul food." Not "California soul food." Real, authentic, made-from-scratch soul food that tastes like somebody's grandmother is back there running the kitchen with a cast-iron skillet and zero tolerance for shortcuts.
The catfish is the best I've ever had. Period. Perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside. The fried chicken is absolute perfection, golden, crunchy, juicy, and everything fried chicken is supposed to be.
And every single side deserves its own standing ovation. The collard greens, black-eyed peas, and red beans and rice are all incredible. These aren't filler sides, they're dishes you could make an entire meal out of.
Then there are the fried green tomatoes. Bar none, the best I've ever had. Anywhere.
Every bite of this meal was so good that somewhere between the catfish and the collards, a word flew out of my mouth that would have made my grandmother raise an eyebrow.
The portions are generous, the flavors are authentic, and the entire experience reminded me what soul food is supposed to taste like.
If you've been searching for genuine soul food in San Diego County, your search is over.

Among the best BBQ and Southern cuisine in the SD region, large portions, cooked well, fresh, arrived hot, and yes definitely will order again! Best Mac and Cheese, Cole Slaw, Corn Bread, and a unique style of Rice/Beans.

We eat here often and never had a bad meal.
I loved the sampler platter. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. Great southern seasonings on everything.
One big plus for us, is the collard greens are vegetarian. They can be heavily peppered at times.
The mac and cheese is the southern baked version. Very tasty with more than 1 flavor of cheese.
The mashed potatoes are made with fresh potatoes and not boxed. Yummy!
All the ribs are fork tender and nice and meaty.
I would love to see them add burnt ends to the menu!

We love the sample platter. Great for sharing with friends and family, or just enjoying it for several days. Delicious meat preparation and sides. It would be really great if green salads were offered as well, but we're not complaining because the quality of what we get is amazing! Thanks, Felix!
