Orwashers is a landmark in New York City. The bakery began as a modest storefront in the Upper East Side, founded in 1916 by a Hungarian immi…
Having spent the better part of the past two years 120 miles north of NYC in a hamlet named Hillsdale, I came to appreciate wonderful baked goods like baguettes and croissants firmly in the Parisian tradition. So, after 40 years on the UWS I decided to find the same quality of baked goods as in Hillsdale. I am searching no more, Orwashers exceeds the standards of both Hillsdale and Paris.

A little disappointed because the amount of cream cheese on both bagels was shockingly minuscule -- it was a very light brushing of cheese, to the point you can see completely naked parts of bagel, like the way you'd gently swipe on butter or something. $12 for a bagel with lox and cream cheese and hardly any cheese in sight is a bummer.

My past two orders from Orwashers were so bad I've decided to leave a review. Specifically, the bagel in my New York Breakfast was inedible. It was significantly smaller than usual, extremely hard to bite through, and the inside was dense and hard to chew. I was only able to open the bagel and eat the lox - and because the bagel was so small, this was only two bites worth.
I don't know whether Orwashers has stopped making bagels in house, or if they're trying a new formula, or if I just got a stale bagel. Even the 6 pack bagels from the grocery stores are significantly better.
Though I have ordered (and visited) Orwashers semi-frequently, I cannot trust future orders due to these consistency issues, and will likely not order again.

Unfortunately, my bagel was burnt which made it impossible to eat. It was like eating a bagel crouton and all of my toppings kept falling out because of it. The Black & White Cookie was delicious and fresh.

Lox sandwich was tasty, but the smallest one I've ever seen. I thought the Irish soda bread would be plain, but it came with raisins and rye seeds. Yummy, but steer clear if you don't like those ingredients. Thankfully their bread slicer was fixed since the last time we ordered their sourdough bread. Coffee made a mess, but I'm finding no one has figuredout how to deliver coffee without it spilling everywhere!
