I've been a loyal supporter of Sammy Lou's Home Cooking And BBQ for years, starting with their original location and continuing my patronage at their new spot. From the moment I first tasted their smoky, perfectly seasoned barbecue, I was hooked. The ribs are always tender, and the brisket is consistently juicy and flavorful. Their home-cooked sides, like the creamy mac and cheese and tangy coleslaw, complement the meats wonderfully.
The move to the new location hasn’t changed the quality of their food or their welcoming atmosphere. The staff remains friendly and attentive, making every visit a pleasure. It’s clear that Sammy Lou’s dedication to great food and customer service hasn’t wavered. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer, this is a place where you can always expect delicious meals and a warm, inviting experience.

This was the worst BBQ I've ever had. The ribs were not only tiny, they gave me the very end pieces which were overdone. They tasted like they were slow cooked in an oven, definitely not smoked or grilled! The brisket was even worse. Dry, tasteless, and did not have a red ring around the edges which is a clear sign it was NOT smoked the way a GOOD BBQ brisket should be cooked.
The chicken fried steak was meh. Just ok. The gravy though was awful. Absolutely NOT homemade. It had a CLEAR look, just like a package of instant gravy, with zero flavor. Yuck. We had to add lots of salt to have any flavor. The mashed potato were also gross. Chunky, sticky, and flavorless.
As for the banana pudding- I really dont see why this is rated as their "best" item, as it wasnt anything special at all. I did appreciate them separating the cookies from the pudding so it wouldnt be soggy. They get 1* for this effort. We will not order from here again though.
$70 for 2 meals neither of us enjoyed is a hard blow!

Everything top notch and what you would come to expect from any southern bbq place, plus more! The only downside to the meal I received was the cream of corn, somewhat separated and more corn than cream. However, I believe this was due to it being delivered rather than a in person meal, with the time of delivery from the restaurant to my hands I think it just separated and ruined it a touch.
But WOW, the Homemade Banana Pudding, was nothing short of amazing and as advertised by all other reviews. Only thing I can say is " just like momma used to make ", this alone is worth re-ordering and revisiting this place.
Loved everything about Sammy Lou's, especially the above and beyond attention to careful packaging and delivery from the restaurant. Will definitely be returning and can't wait to get my hands on that Homemade Banana Pudding again! Great job Sammy Lou's!!!!

Today the banana pudding looks curdled like it spoiled or something and is runny and had no banana or cookies like its suppose to. I threw it away unfortunately. The fish is usually good but today was too salty.

The food was amazing! The fried catfish is the best in town, the cabbage greens are like grandma made them herself, and the fried okra wheewww! This is my favorite restaurant in Rowlett!
