What a wonderful surprise after driving 45 minutes to Hastings - and the main street was closed for the night at 4pm - a regular feature of seaside towns (some close at 2pm). Probably the best take-away and eat-in cosmopolitan Burger/Mexican/Breakfast cafe in the entire Western-Port region.
Who opens until 8pm? These guys do!
And all the more fitting considering the massive amount of choices on the menu!
I must admit that not much inspires me around this area in terms of food options but if you are eager and have spent the time to travel out here then give Shake'n'Buns a look.
Next you will likely hear the booming voice of the chef/owner - Dennis - who will greet you with an enthusiastic style and invite you in for a cosy meal. Such a character - he comes across as a kind person with a warm and friendly attitude - great fun considering the location, drab main street and approximate position from the beach/parklands etc. Strike up a conversation or listen to this man guide you as he is very flexible - especially if you have alternative dietary needs.
After choosing something on the menu you will experience a very decent portion of whatever you choose - a welcome sight for myself as I was more than peckish!
Willing to test the chef's expertise I chose a quick and simple Taco dish and chips. With speedy resolve Dennis whipped up a very well rounded and filling meal for the few pennies he was asking for - brilliant.
Prepare yourself for a discounted meal without any scant or Lilliputian portioning - these meals are real tummy fillers!
On that point I can say that this extremely wallet-friendly eatery will surprise you with a myriad of options, including alcoholic drinks for those of the age, in an inviting and cosy environment.
AND DID I MENTION THEY ARE OPEN UNTIL 8PM???
