Ok. I will try to keep this reasonably brief. But that meal was so good it brought tears to my eyes. I work a human services job where some days are particularly draining and heavy. The other day, I knew that if I went straight home, I would skip dinner, out of fatigue. That is not a good choice for me, so, I decided to see what Icould find. Nothing sounded good.
I remembered that Spenard Roadhouse gets raves from people I know, highlighting the freshness and highly skilled preparation of the dishes.
I have been craving Caesar salad, and I saw that theirs has "garlic Caesar" dressing.
They had my full attention.
I also wanted fish, but not fried and not dried out. Enter their grilled salmon.
So, I ordered it for pickup at a specific time, knowing that doing so would force me to leave my office at a decent hour.
First of all, the meal was ready exactly on time.
Second, you can order a protein **even with a small salad**! Leftover salad isn't lovely and I don't like unnecessary food waste. So, being able to order that amount of salad I would actually eat AND still being able to get a piece of fish with it was very appealing.
Third. Please understand that my vocabulary is insufficient to describe how good this meal was. Sincerely. Words are a poor medium for this task.
The salad felt so alive, so vital, that I started smiling, spontaneously, from the first bite. And, yes, making happy noises. The garlic Caesar dressing is one of the most luscious and scintillating things I have ever put into my mouth. Combined with the cool, crisp lettuce, each bite was perfect, inspecting, sustenance for the soul.
And the salmon. I think we can all agree that Alaskans have a special regard for, and understanding of, what salmon should taste like. This was outstanding. It had a flavorful glaze that was present enough to enhance the dish with well-tuned flavors, while still allowing the flavor of the fish to be the shining star. It was perfectly cooked, moist, and almost absurdly delectable.
This is going to be a go to meal for hard days. I can tell. At $21 for both, it is an affordable and transcendent meal.
(The rosemary spritzer was light and tasty, but unnecessary. The food captured all of my attention. I would probably order it again if I was eating in, but the salad and fish are the soul- satisfying elements for me! The price I listed did not include it.)
