Then pancakes were good. Not easy to mess that up.
The Big Steak Omelette, however, had a few things that were less than desirable in quality, though it tasted good and it seemed fairly well fresh.
The first thing that I disliked - and I find it so bad that I think it's unacceptable, maybe even for an IHOP - is that the "shredded steak" is definitely not shredded. Nor is it steak per se.
It seemed to be broken-apart, chunky pieces of beef that was poor in quality even for that.
In fact, there was a significantly greater amount of gristle (mostly cartelige, but also somewhat more fat than is acceptable) than I would allow for beef of any acceptable quality, the consistany was just a bit too thick, the texture was similar to ground and packed-together beef, and the worst part by far, is that it was grey and slightly brown in color.
Yes, you heard me right, it was grey (and a little brown) in color.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but beef is supposed to be a nice brown in color, ranging from a savory, mild regular brown, to a rich dark brown.
Most definitely not grey, because grey is a quality that "mystery meat from a can" has.
So despite that decent taste, and okay level of browning from how long they cooked it (at least I hope that it was lightly browned from cooking, and not some other unpleasant thing!), *that is most definitely, without a doubt, not shreaded steak*! At least not any normal kind that I'm familiar with. Or that I'd ever want.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is *false advertising*. Big time. At least as far as I'm concerned, and it is terrible quality beef for *steak* either way.
There also wasn't much of it, making that mediocre in quality as well. Less than in previous times that I've gotten this too.
Whatever is going on that has them marketing this as steak (greed or not), is just plain wrong!
This may be the second time I've had this happen too, since I think I may have ordered this a while back as well. I'm not sure when I last ordered their "Big Steak" omelette (which isn't even "big" at all, now that I think about it!) was maybe between September to November of 2025 (and I made *this* order on June 24th of 2026), if that tells you anything.
Second thing, is the quality of the other ingredients isn't that good either, but they're still fair at least (if my memory serves me correctly, since I'm already starting to forget about this "mistake" of an order). Mostly the mushrooms, which were too soft and a little shredded (in a poor quality way), and they weren't cooked all that well, but they were decent at least (again, I think so; not everyone will agree with me; obviously). And the omelette could have stood to have more of the other ingredients used as well as.
Third, the portion size is less than "big". The omeltte wasn't even "dinner-plate sized". It could easily have fit onto a dinner plate without ever reaching off the sides.
Other than all of that, the omelette was cooked fairly well, and it tasted pretty good, with a good texture and feel.
It was reasonably filling for me, although I eat like a bird, so take that into account.
So in conclusion: the pancakes were pretty good, but the omelette was "irritated complaint" worthy.
