"I have been coming to this restaurant with my grandparents since I was a little girl. Cheap prices and my very favorite restaurant. The smell of their green chile and the taste of the food is so nostalgic to me so the second I smelled it when it got to my place I felt that in my bones. My grandma used to call one of the employees Slow Jose because he forgot her soda during a crazy dinner rush like twenty years ago and now we just call the restaurant Slow Joe's. "I ordered the Mexicali Burrito (smothered) and a cup of elote. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. The elote appeared overcooked or not fresh—the kernels were dull tan/brown in color and had an off taste, so I couldn’t finish it.
The chili on the burrito also missed the mark. It tasted more like a flour-based gravy than a proper green chili, with a noticeable flour flavor and an unrefined texture. Inside the burrito, the meat el pastor was actually good,
but the fries were overly greasy and soggy. The pico de gallo was unbalanced as well, lacking tomato and jalapeño and consisting mostly of cilantro and red onion, which didn’t pair well with the rest of the dish and the guacamole wasn't real.
Overall, the meal fell short in both quality and execution, and I won’t be returning."
