Jethro's BBQ is a locally owned and operated restaurant serving slow smoked meats, wings, and ribs. All sides are scratch made, and sauces are house recipe. Jethro's BBQ Ames features the core BBQ men…

Really disappointed in my food. The description said pulled chicken nachos. The toppings came on the side but were tiny little cups. No chicken. A few scraps of chewy bacon.
The other items were just ok. Not worth the money paid. Almost $20 worth of dry, stale chips.

First last I ordered the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo last week. It was the same size as the Grammas Gumbo which is $8.69. The menu price was $18.29 for the chicken and sausage gumbo. So I ordered 2 of the Grammas this time got an extra corn muffin and more food for $1 less. Still not the value I expect from Jethros.

The brisket platter is half of what you get in the restaurant. Burnt ends were very dried out. BBQ sides broke open and spilled everywhere.

The Dinner for Two is the best of Jethro's BBQ items in one selectio)n. The ribs are the best in DSM - meaty, juicy, smoky, flavorful. The sausage and pulled pork were equally yummy. I just wish they gave a choice of sauces as in dining rooom service. The green beans & potato salad were like those of childhood memories in the Deep South. They were out of gumbo but the chili was unique and delicious (I added sour cream) savory and with big chili spice depth with a subtle hint of sweetness that brought out the best in the spice. Loved the corn muffins --tender and sweet. I would've given it five stars but that it all came barely warm and that the onion rings needed the oil better drained and blotted. The breading was light & crisp and the sweet, thick-sliced onions were fully cooked without being overdone. I really wanted good BBQ to celebrate the Fourth. Jethro's was the best choice.
