Mumbo Gumbo PDX opened in February 2019, and is located inside the Smile Food Cart Pod. Since then, Brandon Stevens has been serving quality interpretations of classic Southern Dishes.
Our memories of New Orleans and the delicious Cajun dishes we experienced there came rushing back--when we tasted our red Red Beans N' Rice (build your own) . Dave had sausage, crab and shrimp added and I the chicken and shrimp.
Dave is a native Georgian and I have a Cajun heritage from my Gustineau side. So we are no strangers to Sweet Potato Pie--and this pie was authentically spiced with a flaky crust and real whipped cream. A great contrast to the spiciness of the entree.
First timers to Mumbo Gumbo!
Definitely fairly priced for the superb quality and ample quantity of main ingredients. Lots of red beans, huge shrimp &, several large chunks of chicken and crab.
Fingers into the very warm red beans, crab and shrimp shells were cracked and the sweet meat tossed back into the red beans and rice. Yes, finger-licking good!
The "re-useable"bowls were brick-red and extra sturdy microwaveable plastic. Thanks MG.
Delivery was quick with food piping hot.
So glad we discovered MG!
We are return customers for sure.

We had it once and it was great! The best Shrimp ‘n Grits I've had. But we ordered it again...(about a month and half later) and it was gross. The grits weren't cooked right. More cheese than shrimp. And it was more like a soup than grits and the texture was horrible. The Gumbo (build your own) had more rice than anything, barely any shrimp and sausage.

Absolutely amazing! The Staple was huge, easily two meals in one, and full of sausage. The best beans and rice I've ever had, period.
It was the first time I've had Sweet Potato Pie and I am a convert. Better than pumpkin pie!
The Gumbo with crab was wonderful, perfectly spiced! I devoured it. I love that you can customize it as well, but be sure to get the andouille sausage in there!
As a heads up - the crab is in the shell in the gumbo. I figured it would be, but I hoped it was shelled since it was a to-go item. I love crab so much I decided to order it anyhow. Regardless, it made it harder to eat without the proper tools, which sadly I don't have. Next time I'm at the store I'm going to get get a shell cracker!

Gumbo was delicious!! The protein was yummy and they gave a nice big portion of crab!! Not too spicy but full of flavor!

Did the build your own gumbo! Flavor was very good and lots of rice and veggies. Paid 4$ extra for shrimp and 2$ extra for chicken and hardly got any of both. All in all I'd eat here again
