Yoshi Sushi has been my favorite in the area of the 3 to 4 sushi places I have tried. They always satisfiy my craving for sushi and today is no different. The Volcano Roll (No. 54) I ordered has a that is rich, yet subtle in tasting all the ingredients. The first thing I taste is the mildly spicy yet very savory (umami?) eel and spicy mayo sauces (no surprise there). After a few seconds of chewing the majority of the spicy quality kicks in and I felt the lightly stingy tingling on my tongue (which is the way I like it). The cucumber is next, with the refreshing, "clean" taste it usually has, with a hint of the avocado. Last of the thing I taste is the spicy crunch salmon, and while the taste sublte because of the stronger tasting sauces, it still is noticable as a savory fish and bread flavor (I think; don't quote me on that). The texture of the Volcano roll has the gentle crunchyness of the spicy crunch salmon, the smooth texture of the eel and spicy mayo sauces are pleasant and add to the smooth, almost creamy texture you normally find in sushi. All the ingredients look, and taste, fresh and of good quality, although I'm not sure what exactly they taste like fresh versus aged, since I don't have enough experience with the aged state of such things (and why would anyone want to?). I can't comment on the fried rice, since I haven't tried it yet and I'm full from the 8 sushi rolls (I'm a light eater). The Strawberry Mochi (No. 84) has the wonderful taste of real strawberry ice cream (the good kind) and the outer coating has the sweet, pleasant, "near-candy" taste that I like and expect from mochi. The strawberry ice cream filling (is that what that stuff is? or is it something else? I never really tried to find out) has the thick and creamy, but "quarter frozen" (as opposed to half frozen) texture I love about mochi, and the outer layer has the nice, very soft, and slightly chewy texture, with the feel of the powdered suger dusting, that again, I expect from mochi. And as for the Coke soda? Well, soda is soda, this coke is like any other fair Coca Cola. Enough said. I definitely recommend Yoshi Sushi for a variety of occasions that call for this kind of quality Japanese cuisene, and of course, all your sushi cravings!
