"This is one of the best restaurants I've ever visited, hands down. I came to visit Oakland for a work trip, and during my stay I found myself coming back to Shooting Star Cafe well over four times in a two day period. Each time I got something different, and every item was delicious, refreshing, and made me want to keep coming back. In particular I loved their lychee sago bowl with mixed fruit, and all of their drinks were exactly what I was hoping for. "
"We had several dishes that were delicious. Pork Spareribs Clay Pot Rice / 㰖角排骨煲仔飯 had great flavors with Bok Choy and bowl full of rice, too much rice. Shredded Pork Pan Fried Noodle / 肉絲煎麵arrived with pan noodles on separate container. Shredded pork could also be great as a soup dish! Combination Meat Chow Mein / 雜錦炒麵was ok nothing special and almost lacked that wholesome flavor for authentic chinese food. Fried Prawns / 炸蝦was cooked perfectly and tasted great! Popcorn Chicken / 鹽酥雞 was seasoned well! Beef Chow Fun / 乾炒牛河 was surprisingly very good with good flavors. Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings / 椒鹽雞中翼 were ok and our least favorite, very oily and arrived soggy. "

They use better quality meats than the bargain basement restaurant will use. They are located in a higher-class neighborhood with more fussy patrons. When you order from then you get the benefit of that!"

"YAN's China did not disappoint. I am a return customer and had to try Hong Kong Style Pan Fried Noodle. It was excellent. The noodles were crispy fried, kept separate as I ordered online. The Sauce w/Chicken and Veggies you pour over the Crispy noodles was cooked to perfection. The ingredients were all generous, non salty which allows me to season more or add soy sauce if I choose. (Combo) Sweet & Sour Pork was an okay deal in terms of portion size, you could easily split it out into dinner for two people, but it was all so unrelentingly salty and greasy, with way too much squishy dough around the pork. Aside from green onions in the fried rice there were no vegetables that I could see, and no pineapple or onion pieces in the sweet and sour pork. I couldn't finish half of it. "I absolutely love their fried crab!! I asked them to tape or staple my bag because it was delivered via DoorDash, and they did an excellent job securing my food. The crab was fried extra crispy per my request and I love it! "
"The Mu Shu was more than half cabbage, and the cabbage was in large pieces that were barely cooked. Underneath the cabbage was a small overcooked amount of the usual mu shi ingredients.
The hot and sour soup had very little flavor beyond sour and was quite thick and cloudy.
My take on this was that someone in the kitchen didn’t feel like cooking fresh portions and used what they had in the bottom of the pot.
I will not order from Happy Garden again."
