It's a pretty simple fix and traditional to cook the potatoes with the meat so that they absorb the flavor (not that there was any to absorb). The soy sauce base was not present. It just tasted like cheap oil thrown together with the meat. The onions weren't cooked well enough, which would have helped the dish have flavor.
